Is Jesus the Son of God?
Jesus fulfilled more than 100 prophecies. Christian evangelist Josh McDowell stated that a mathematician concluded that if you took only 8 of the prophecies, the chances of them being fulfilled in 1 person are astronomical. He said that it would be like taking the state of Texas and filling it 2 feet deep with silver dollars, then marking 1 of those silver dollars with a red dot and then blindfolding someone and saying to him, "Find the one with the red dot!" |

Here are only a dozen of the more than 100 prophecies that Jesus fulfilled. Remember, these were prophesied hundreds of years before the birth of Jesus.
1.He would be of the seed of Abraham (prophecy - Genesis 22:1-18 fulfillment - Matthew 1:1)
2.He would be of the tribe of Judah (prophecy - 2 Samuel 2-14 and 7:11-17 fulfillment - Matthew 1:2-3)

Some will say that these prophecies were written after Jesus died, but in 1947 archeologists discovered The Dead Sea Scrolls in caves near the Dead Sea in Jerusalem. What they found were manuscripts of the Old Testament dating back hundreds of years before the birth of Jesus. The manuscripts were almost identical to the translations of The Old Testament that we have today, proving that the Bible is true and accurate. This disputes the notion that The Bible has changed over time. No it hasn’t. Though people have tried to destroy it, God has kept His word intact!

One book that was found by archeologists completely intact was the book of Isaiah.
Here is an example of just 1 passage from the book of Isaiah, written by the prophet, about Jesus, approximately 700 years before he was even born!
Isaiah 53
1 Who has believed our message
and to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed?
2 He grew up before him like a tender shoot,
and like a root out of dry ground.
He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him,
nothing in his appearance that we should desire him
3 He was despised and rejected by men,
a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering.
Like one from whom men hide their faces
he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
4 Surely he took up our infirmities
and carried our sorrows,
yet we considered him stricken by God,
smitten by him, and afflicted.
5 But he was pierced for our transgressions,
he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was upon him,
and by his wounds we are healed.
6 We all, like sheep, have gone astray,
each of us has turned to his own way;
and the LORD has laid on him

10 Yet it was the LORD's will to crush him and cause him to suffer,
and though the LORD makes his life a guilt offering,
he will see his offspring and prolong his days,
and the will of the LORD will prosper in his hand.
11 After the suffering of his soul,
he will see the light of life and be satisfied ;
by his knowledge my righteous servant will justify many,
and he will bear their iniquities.
12 Therefore I will give him a portion among the great,
and he will divide the spoils with the strong,
because he poured out his life unto death,
and was numbered with the transgressors.
For he bore the sin of many,
and made intercession for the transgressors.
From what I understand, this passage of scripture is not even read in the Jewish Synagogues today for the very reason that everyone will know that this passage is talking about Jesus. There is a story of a Jewish skeptic who when he was read Isaiah 53 thought for sure that it was from The New Testament, but when he was shown that it was from The Old Testament he was floored. His search for God had lead him to Jesus. He had no choice but to recognize that Jesus was the long awaited Messiah. He repented of his sins and accepted Christ.

Or how about the prophetic verses in Psalm 22 which King David wrote approximately 1000 years before Jesus was born!

3 Yet you are enthroned as the Holy One;
you are the praise of Israel.

they hurl insults, shaking their heads:

and he rules over the nations.

all who go down to the dust will kneel before him—
those who cannot keep themselves alive.
30 Posterity will serve him;
future generations will be told about the Lord.

to a people yet unborn—
for he has done it.

The obvious proof that Jesus is the Son of God, is not only the fulfilled prophecies, but the empty tomb. What happened to His body? Did Mary roll away the stone? Did the disciples take the body? How did they get past the Roman guards? If the disciples had stolen the body, don’t you think that they would have produced it when their very lives were at stake. Don’t you think when they were being threatened with torture or facing a cruel death, that they would have produced the body and confessed that the whole thing was a hoax! If the Jewish leaders or the Romans had stolen Jesus’ body, don’t you think that they would have produced the body to squash the Christian uprising. They could have said, "See here is your Jesus! Now everyone go home!" and that would have been the end of that. The fact is that no one knew where Jesus’ body was until an angel at the tomb announced it and the risen Christ appeared. He appeared to more than 500 people. Some skeptics have said that the 500 were probably hallucinating, but psychologists say that it is impossible for 500 people to have the same hallucination. In a court of law you only need 2 witnesses. There were more than 500 witnesses to the resurrected Christ! Christ has risen indeed proving that He in fact was God!

Another proof that Jesus is the Son of God is the apostles themselves. All but one, the apostle John, died as martyrs. However, (according to church tradition) John did face martyrdom when he was boiled in a huge basin of boiling oil, but was miraculously delivered from death. John was then sentenced to prison on the island of Patmos. It was there that he wrote his prophetic book of Revelation. The apostle John was later freed. He died as an old man, the only apostle to die peacefully. All the others died horrible deaths. Some were beheaded, one was sawn in two, the apostle Peter was crucified (in fulfillment of Jesus’ prophecy - John 21:18) and according to church tradition was crucified upside down, because he felt he was not worthy to be crucified right side up. Why would Jesus’ disciples die such horrible deaths when all they had to do was stop saying that Jesus was the Son of God and that He rose from the dead. No one in their right mind would die for a lie. Anyone of them could have confessed that this was all a hoax, and his life would have been spared. But they did not, because they knew it was true. They had been with Jesus for 3 years. They heard His teachings. They saw the miracles. They knew indeed that He was who He said He was, the Son of God!
I could go on and on with the evidence, but I won’t. You see Christianity is not a blind leap of faith. It is actually rooted in evidence and history. Jesus warned that some would come and say that He was not the Christ. "Children, it is the last hour; and just as you heard that antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have appeared; from this we know that it is the last hour." (1 John 2:18) Jesus said that even if an angel appears and says that He is not the Christ, that angel is not an angel of light, but an angel of darkness (a demon). "No wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light." (2 Corinthians 11:14) Many false religions’ founders have said that an angel appeared to them, but they have denied Jesus’ deity. They were not of the light. They have been deceived by a demon or the Devil himself. God's apostles has a strong warning for them "But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned!" (Galatians 1:8) If the founders of these false religions are to be eternally condemned, you would do well not to follow them and follow Christ instead! Well I have presented just some of the evidence. The decision to believe is yours!

Luke 24:12 But Peter rose and ran to the tomb; stooping and looking in, he saw the linen cloths by themselves; and he went home marveling at what had happened.
Luke 24:13 That very day two of them were going to a village named Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem,
Luke 24:14 and they were talking with each other about all these things that had happened.
Luke 24:15 While they were talking and discussing together, Jesus himself drew near and went with them.
Luke 24:16 But their eyes were kept from recognizing him.
